Our mailbox was in a pretty sad shape when we moved in. The door was attached on one side using a couple zip ties. Eventually the bolt holding the other side together rusted out and one day I got home from work to find the door in the middle of the road.
I tried using zip ties on both sides, but this didn’t work out so well and I knew we had to do something serious about it. One plan was to shove a new, smaller mailbox inside the current one… this might have worked, but would probably have been a frustrating project to take on.
I did some research on the internet and found a company that sells the door part of the mailbox. All I had to do was cut away the existing mailbox, slide it in, use a few screws and a little caulk and we would have a mailbox. What did this project need… more power!
I set off to Home Depot and picked up a angle grinder and started cutting! It wasn’t too hard and I think the mailbox turned out pretty darn good.
Before

After – the caulk dried clear and we got numbers on it now!
